This week I had the opportunity to attend the International America’s Economic Forum in Toronto. This years conference featured two of the worlds brightest in Artificial Intelligence and I had to hear what they had to say. Here is my take on their funny and insightful session !
The Economic Forum of the Americas has been running for over a decade now, in fact 13 years. Held in Toronto, Miami and Montreal every year, the conference is a who is who of the top leaders from across the world. I am currently filming my second documentary, this one on the emergence and impact of “Artificial Intelligence and I had to attend to hear two speakers.
Both Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio are co-recipients of the 2018 Turing Award. This is the highest and most coveted award for breakthrough work in Artificial Intelligence. Their session was more of a fireside chat where they talked about the impact of AI, challenges and opportunities. What i loved about the session was the pure simplicity. No buzz words no hush hush but practical level conversation that focused on the real impact not what we hear on the news, nothing sensationalized. Her are some of the points they discussed and my take on it.
#AI , #MachineLearning #DeepLearning are not the same – That’s right. Today more than ever we need a lot more education in order to understand what things mean. Neural networks, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning < Deep learning are different concepts and yet connected together.
#AI has Many Application – From what was discussed on stage, the Energy Industry , Autonomous Cars, Healthcare and more can benefit form AI and related technologies. How far Out ? 5 to 50 years. We don’t know.
#AI & #Politics – With data breaches such as those of Facebook and Cambridge Analytics, AI can help in removing bias and fraud from elections.
In fact here is the video. Watch it in full to understand everything ! Enjoy !
