Last week I sat across the table from the top 3 executives of a large national US bank, who essentially concluded that they were ready for the future because they had invested in “Cloud Architecture”. “Cloud”, how is that alone going to address your strategic goals as an entire organization for the next two decades? I asked. Nobody responded.
Today by far every Discussion about technology is assumed to be the discussion about the future. You could not be wrong than that. The world today is so filled with buzz that separating hype from reality I’m getting executives to understand that technology is definitely a priority but unless the organization comes together as a whole, progress will never happen.
I read about 3 to 5 books a month. For the past 20 years I may have read over 2000 books, many of which I don’t even remember. The one lesson that I can however remember that I have collectively gained from all of these books is that becoming action-oriented needs wider thinking. These 20 years have also help me understand some of the biggest challenges that industries across the world face. From the manufacturing plant in Helsinki Finland to the retail store in Dubai everyone has the same challenge. I also saw a huge void in the industries I work with (Accounting, Credit Unions, Banking, Manufacturing, Small Business, Tech to name a few) and that is the absence of a metric that helps measure Future Readiness.
What is the Future Readiness Score™ (FRS) ?
The Future Readiness Score (FRS)™ is a fresh perspective, designed in today’s era to suit today and tomorrow. A much-needed Key performance Index (KPI) to help organizations identify, evaluate and plan key areas of business to grow sustainably in an era that is highly disruptive for many industries.
So why a new KPI ?
By far all the systems and methodologies available today focus on the Technology side of business. Measuring Digital Transformation cannot be the only metric for Future Readiness as there are other forces at work, including People, Culture, Learning and others that have a huge impact on the success of your organization. Organizations that are not hype driven do not ignore these signals and hence the need for a more accurate and robust process to measure future readiness. FRS fills this critical void.
How the Future Readiness Score Works
The FRS tracks 8 key areas of impact on business that include Engagement, Learning, Accountability, Collaboration, People, Culture, Execution, Technology. These together form a FRS Score which essentially provides an indicator of where your organization stands today and what it needs to do to become fully disruption proof and a stable value driven organization.
I really believe the future readiness score will be extremely helpful for organizations that are looking add readiness at a larger level and leave technology in its own category then to create confusion and going for hype. The assessment is most powerful when completed by decision makers over a half or full day session (depending on organization size). Executive Consensys is key at and hence the Assessment demands that this be done in person with all decision makers involved.
The outcome of the FRS workshop is to arrive at the score and find a resolution to all the key challenges and opportunities identified in the workshop. With over 200 key factors in 8 areas analyzed during the workshop, participants leave nothing behind. With a final 1-Page recommendation scorecard that provides guidance on the top business priorities and a strategy that is based on data, the future now seems much more attainable and the expectations, manageable.
